About Me

An avid traveler I have had the good fortune to have spent my career in the travel and vacation industry. From Bali to Copenhagen and all points between is where I have been or intend to go. This blog however is specific to the Western half of the United States as I explore this part of the world.

Desert Rain

Rain is very rare in Las Vegas so when it comes it is always an event... I thought people didn't know how to drive in Florida in the rain and they get rain all the time. However, if you are familiar with the fact that roads are most slippery when it first starts to rain because of the build up of oils and such on the road... imagine how much is built up on a road that hasn't seen water for months. Super Slick.

So, living in one of the most expensive cities for car insurance gives you an idea of how much in the hole I already am with local drivers... duh huh! Mix in some oily and wet streets and you have an urban demolition derby. The traffic circles are especially dangerous as drivers realize, all too late, that their high school physics labs on centripedal force, centrifugal force and friction actually do have real world applications...

So on a rainy day in Vegas, it is a good idea to stay off the busy streets if you can... stay inside or if you like the rain (me) use the roads less traveled to experience the spectacular event that is rain in the desert!

So when it rains you can often find me in the Red Rock Canyon area photographing the spontaneous water falls and raging washes...

...and then back to the lab to put the experience out on the web...

It's pouring rain in NYC right now, and our drivers are just as crazy and reckless as they are in any other weather condition.
